What happened to standing up for what is the right, respectful thing to do? Has it been lost in the generations before us, where today's generation have no ethics or honor, only what's in it for them?
Do parents no longer teach their children to be respectful, to do unto others as you would have them do unto you? We were taught it in childhood. We learn it from our parents. We learn it at school. But more than any other place, we learn it at church because it comes straight from the Bible, found in the Ten Commandments and from Christ's teaching. If you don't want to be ripped off, don't rip off others.
Why do our youth take advantage of vulnerable moments and then when confronted, plead ignorance? Is it a sense of entitlement? It's really a mystery to me, or is it?
Maybe parents didn't teach them, maybe they follow by example, maybe the parents ripped people off and told their children to do the same. If parents are not honorable and don't come clean and own up, then how can we expect our children to do the same.
I suppose that living an honorable life comes at a cost, and because there's a cost the youth of today will not buy in. The cost is for this generation to be willing to stand up for values that mean something to people other than themselves. Their values have to make a difference in the world. They have to count, especially in a crisis or when the outcome of their choices - their word - matters to the lives of others.
That would be the code of honor.
Being 50+ allows us to rant every now and then, this is an entitlement given because of our age.
