Have you ever wondered about the circle of life? We start out as a wee infant, so helpless, needing someone to meet our every need. We can't yet see quite well, we must only eat food that we can digest, we can't talk, so totally dependent on our care giver.
As we develop we begin to see more clearly, we distinguish sounds, we recognize faces. We develop muscles and strong bones so that we can crawl and then walk. Our senses develop and become acute to noise, smells and tastes. We then progress to the toddler years, then on to pre-adolescent, adolescent and then adult, and then just old.
When we get old, our senses diminish, we can no longer smell the things we use to. Our taste buds can't handle hot things, sour, or we lose our sense of smell altogether. We are not bothered by sounds any longer because we just can't hear as well as we use to. Our eye sight falters, we either can't see far or closeup, or both. Our bones weaken, we become susceptible to falls because we no longer have the balance we once had. Our tummies tend to expel the gases that contribute to the depletion of the ozone. We can't eat the things we use to, we have a hard time trying to chew, so we only eat soft palatable food items. We find it hard to bend over and tie our shoes, so we opt to buy only velcro shoes. Our bladders are no longer like they use to be, we could hold it for hours, now we must always stay close to a washroom where ever we are. The first thing we do when we go anywhere is stakeout the washroom. If we know a washroom is not likely to be found we clad our selves in "depends". We schedule our dinner at 4:00, to ensure we're in bed by 7:00 and arise at 5:00 in the am. We rely more on our children now to do things for us, like opening a jar, tieing our shoes if we're not the lucky enough to have velcro, and even zipping our coat. We can't thread a needle, we need our children for that too.
Isn't this familar, we start out as an infant relying on others to meet our every need and we end this life, having our children caring for us and meeting our every need.
